For a better tomorrow ..............

Since the time , this beautiful piece of literature has touched me or in layman’s language this ghazal given by a friend who has the same taste in music or infact better ….This poetry in the mellifluous voice of Abida Parveen written by Faiz sahab makes me ruminate on a different aspect of life for us women ….

Nahin nigaah mein manzil to justujoo hi sahi,
Nahin visaal mayassar to arzoo hi sahi.

Gar intezaar kathin hai to jab talak ae dil
Kisi ke waada-e-fardaa ki guftgoo hi sahi.
So very true of our lives, even though the destination eludes us , our search is on and the desire or longing for a better tomorrow ………..

Even though the wait is tough, in the meantime on someone’s promise of tomorrow let the conversation be …………..

One of my clearest remembrances from my childhood, growing up in a small town community , the feeling that swept me was the overbearing importance of conventional beauty for the women of the house . The world seemed to look down with derision and skepticism on those who looked less than perfect .

They don’t look beyond well manicured groomed beauty in the fairer sex anything less is derided , japed with no weightage given to talent, skills and inner self .The appearances only matter, true talents remain hidden with no pat on the backs or encouragement for the women doing exceptionally well apart from the mere beauty competitions and entertainment businesses.

But with changing times, the perceptions and situations are in for a metamorphosis for better, people’s attitude are transforming ..….. I believe that it would take time for us to change and look beyond the perfect bodies only for we have women taking the front seats in all realms , be it sports , academics and the strict male bastions are taken for giving tough competition , taking the example of the toppers in the Civil services 2009 results. For the first time ever in 25 years its all women in the first, second and third ranks and to top it on the fourth position is a physically challenged male . Young Shubhra Saxena has topped the examination, followed by Sharandeep Kaur Brar and Kiran Kaushal, who achieved the second and third positions respectively.
What wondrous laurels !!

Another example is the Britain’s Got Talent Susan Boyle episode where the confidence and the talent of a dodgy 48 year old women whom the audiences jeered , made her an iconic Youtube sensation the world over , a women who would have died in oblivion singing choruses in a small church .

Yes every cloud has a silver lining for us to again hope for our destinations and desires and recognitions beyond the external vanity …..

Hopefully the conversation is onnnnnnnnnnnnn.
